In a recent post we asked you to guess what could be riveting these children's attention. Now it's time to solve the mystery.
The boys and girls at one of the Bengali village schools are attending a "Medical Basics" course by our team members Dr. Devashish and Nimai.

A big part of the work of The Tulsi Trust is to deliver basic healthcare advice and education to the people of our rural area.
These people have different ways of thinking about injuries and illnesses than we do, having developed a different world view through a different culture.
Many of their health conditions are being treated with prayers and magical ceremonies from their shamans.
While our team is always trying to respect the Chhattisgarh resident's culture and tradition, many of these methods are just not effective enough to prevent a high rate of child mortality, death in childbirth, cases of Malaria, crippling, and death through malnutrition or small injuries which become infected.

As dedicated as our team is to deliver this kind of healthcare, we are also very aware that it is not our goal to keep people dependent on us for their basic health. Our objective is always to help people to help themselves.
So we have decided that apart from out medical projects, we want to put more energy into our efforts to educate and spread awareness of basic health and hygiene. We already have a good base project of helping young people to have more life choices than the previous generation with our school project.
Now we are concentrating on health education with our Basic Health course, which aims to teach young children and teenagers basic knowledge of daily health and hygiene practises, as well as nutrition.

The course covers basic practises like wound cleaning, the importance of personal hygiene, Malaria prevention, the importance of clean water and food, nutritional advice, etc.
One of our goals is also to encourage the children to carry their knowledge into their villages and families, inspiring and teaching their elders to change old habits.
Thus we hope to sew the seed of change for better and healthier lives for all of the community.

We want to thank team member Uttam Das for making this vision a reality, as well as Nimai and Dr. Devasish for their teaching work, and UK charity NHS for their continued support, enabling us to realise this project.
