Although we still can't believe 2019 is coming to a close, we somehow have to come to terms with the fact that we are nearing the end of this year.
And what better to do at this time than to take a moment to look back on all the things that have happened over the past few months.
We hope you'll enjoy this little roundup of our activities in this last year with The Tulsi Trust.

2At the beginning of the year the team intensified their efforts to reach out and monitor young mothers and their babies before and after birth. This Mother and baby program has become one of our main focus points this year and has had significant positive impact on local families.
We have also expanded on our wonderful initiative of basic Health and Hygiene Education for children. These workshops and lessons are being taught by our core team of Dr. Devashish and health workers Parul and Nimai. They talk about different simple ways to improve health and hygiene in everyday life to children of all ages in different schools of the area.
We are hoping to further intensify our efforts in this area in 2020.
Our own school - Tulsi Shishu Mandir, has seen proud moments this past year as we waved goodbye to our graduating class 10 students in February, and saw pupils excel at state exams in April.

May saw the devastation of many beautiful, large trees around our base buildings by a cyclone. The trees destroyed many parts of the roof of our buildings, and urgent repairs had to be carried out before the onset of monsoon rains. - Cyclone Donation Appeal
Luckily, with generous help from our friends at FMS, and wonderful private supporters, we were able to get the work done quickly. - Roof Repairs

The team in Chhattisgarh are always extremely busy during the summer time. Floods from the rains during monsoon time mean it's prime breeding season for mosquitoes, which can carry all kinds of diseases, most of all malaria, which is still a very common cause of death in these rural areas. Impure water causes infections and carries parasites.
The following heat and dryness of summer is devastating for the most healthy body, and many people struggle with fevers, heat strokes, and general weakness.
The Team tour the villages six days a week, seeing as many patients as possible.
Toward the end of this year, they have started to add new villages to their rounds, building on the success of their work of previous years. New communities are interested in our medical help, but since our team is small and the jungle is still difficult terrain to navigate, we are trying to keep this expansion sustainable for the team.
Luckily, we have been able to recruit a few local girls who are interested to be trained as health workers and will be able to support and supplement our work. We are very excited for this addition to the team and look forward to a time of growth and expansion in 2020.

We're very grateful to have spent another year serving the poorest communities in India. We are looking forward to this new year with faith, hope, and a lot of enthusiasm.
We hope you'll be with us every step of the way.
Thank you for your continued support, cherished friends!
